Look Ma! No Machine: Hand-formed Pasta Class & Dinner

Making rustic pasta
With nothing more than flour, water and your hands, you can make one of the most gratifying of meals: a bowl of steaming pasta. Not since mud pies and PlayDoh has cooking been so much fun. The only thing more enjoyable is the conviviality of making pasta with others. There are several hundred different pasta shapes but perhaps you’ll invent your own!

In honor of this Terra Madre year, we bring you a pasta-making class and dinner where you’ll make 3 to 4 rustic shapes that match a variety of sauces to carry you through the seasons. These no-egg pastas don’t require a machine, so they’re easy to reproduce at home with few-to-no tools in no more time than it takes to cook a typical meal. The shapes we’ll be making hail from the little-explored culinary wonder of the Italian region of Puglia, recently featured in the New York Times, and where the instructor spent time cooking.

The class takes place at the charming Din Din Supper Club (info below) and is not to be missed. Grab an apron and roll up your sleeves. You’re in for a treat.

Handmade pastaWhat’s Included

• Ingredients, tools and instruction

• Flour from wheat grown and/or milled locally

• Light snacks while we work

• Dinner of our pasta paired with 2 sauces (cime di rapa and a lamb ragu), salad and wine

• 3 take-home sauce recipes

Please bring an apron if you prefer one.

Instructor

Jane Pellicciotto is founder of Team Pasta, a creative, culinary experience. She believes in the freedom and sense of empowerment that comes from preparing your own food from scratch. And that people like to feel confident, creative and generous, pasta making being the perfect vehicle to express those qualities. Jane learned to make pasta as a child and has taught dozens of people to make their own.

Please arrive on time as we will get started immediately. If you will be late, please call 503.317.2019 to let us know. The class will run approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours, after which we will cook our pasta and have a meal together.
