2024 Slow Food Portland Year in Review

In 2024 we continued to host events, as well as participate in events held by other organizations, growing our community of Slow Food friends.

Thanks again to Cookshop for their continued support in hosting our Conviviums. Cookshop offers a range of delicious cooking classes for adults and youth, as well as community collaborations.

BIG thanks to Aviation Gin for the Negroni Week fundraiser that raised over $3000 for Slow Food Portland!

Following is a recap of our activities in 2024

We organized a talk at the OSU Food Innovation Center to hear from two local small businesses launching their product lines by working with the Food Innovation Center.

  • We hosted Oregon Agricultural Trust to learn about Farmland Conservation Easements, and 1000 Friends of Oregon to learn about OR Senate Bill 1537 and its potential impact on Urban Growth Boundaries (UGB). 

  • We tabled at the Pacific Northwest CSA Coalition’s Share Fair.

  • We hosted Paul Durant and Jim Dixon to learn about the burgeoning Oregon olive oil industry as well as the Italian olive oil industry and global markets.

  • We hosted Cory Schreiber to share his experiences and insights on the early years of the farm-to-table movement, current trends, and his vision for the future.

  • We participated in OMSI After Dark Pickle It!, offering pickle samples and recipes.

  • We held a delicious wine-tasting fundraiser at L’Orto Nostrana (Nostrana’s beautiful garden).

  • Thanks again to Aviation American Gin for the amazing Negroni Week (month-long) Fundraiser! As part of Negroni Week, they hosted us for a Distillery Day event to learn how gin is made, including the distilling process and sourcing of their ingredients.

  • We hosted our Annual Community Potluck.

  • We organized a Farm Tour of Empowered Flowers Farm, an organic vegetable farm in Canby, Oregon, run by Joelene Jebbia and Adrianna Moreno.

  • We organized a tour of the Durant Olive Mill in Dayton, Oregon, during their month-long Olio Nuovo Festival.

  • We hosted a presentation from, and a conversation with, Aimee Travis from Food and Water Watch, about Oregon-specific legislation affecting the animal agriculture industry.

  • We enthused about beans at How Have You BEAN? the 3rd annual celebration of legumes in partnership with La Merenda Farm and Wellspent Market.

  • One of our board members presented at OMSI After Dark about the Science of  Chocolate.
