Join Slow Food Portland and Kindness Farm for an immersive, hands-on workshop, where you’ll gain real, actionable skills to improve your soil, grow healthier plants, and conserve resources - whether you're working with a backyard, a small urban plot, or a community garden.

Guided by Ryan Elwood, Lead Farmer at Kindness Farm, this interactive workshop blends expert instruction with hands-on practice so you’ll leave feeling confident about applying regenerative techniques at home.

Four hours of expert-led education on regenerative gardening practices.
A hands-on learning experience where you’ll see, touch, and practice key techniques.
A fully catered lunch from a local BIPOC-owned business.
FREE seeds to take home and start applying what you’ve learned right away.
Direct impact – Your ticket supports Kindness Farm, a nonprofit urban farm working to fight food insecurity in Portland.

What You’ll Learn & Practice

🌱 Soil Health & Composting – Understand how to build and maintain nutrient-rich soil.
💧 Water-Wise Gardening – Learn irrigation techniques that conserve water while keeping plants healthy.
🌿 Resilient Planting Strategies – Explore companion planting and succession planting for year-round food production.
🌾 Seed Saving & Sustainability – Discover how to collect and store seeds for long-term garden success.

We ask those who can to contribute the minimum $30 donation - this covers a fully catered lunch from a local BIPOC-owned business and allows us to make a meaningful donation to Kindness Farm for their time and expertise. Scholarship tickets are available to keep the event accessible, but if you’re able to, your financial support directly funds this event and the farm’s work in food justice and education.
